Volcano Cratering
In this hands-on demonstration, students inflate and deflate a balloon underneath flour to examine how a volcano forms craters and calderas. The movements of the volcano’s surface can also be tracked with gumdrop GPS instruments placed around the volcano. This activity can be easily adapted to any audience.
Human Wave Demonstration
What are the different seismic waves and how are those differences used to figure out earthquake properties? Get your participants jumping and swaying with this demonstration of how P and S waves move differently. In the annotated video, instructors will find text explaining the features of these main seismic waves. After watching the video, enjoy this mini guide with follow up questions and observations (P and S wave Simulation-Questions and Observations)
